In low-oxygen sewer environments, sulfate-reducing bacteria (thiobacillus) thrive in biofilm on pipe walls. They metabolize sulfates into H₂S gas — a colorless, “rotten egg” compound that reacts with surface moisture to rapidly degrade concrete. This Microbial-Induced Corrosion (MIC) is among the leading causes of structural failure in sewer infrastructure worldwide.
Organic matter, heat & seasonal shifts create anaerobic conditions.
Thiobacillus colonizes biofilm on pipe walls.
Sulfates convert to corrosive hydrogen sulfide gas.
Gas + moisture attacks concrete, reducing structural life.
Antimicrobial ruptures bacterial cell walls.
24/7 antimicrobial action
Microban® Antimicrobial Technology™ disrupts and ruptures microbial cell walls continuously — built into the concrete matrix permanently.
No compromise to mix
Visually undetectable. No change in cure time, finishability, or coloration (unless requested). AMX 5500 volume counts as mix water for w/c ratios.
Lower long-term cost
Extends structural serviceable life by fighting corrosion from day one, resulting in less frequent replacements, fewer cleanings, and reduced chemical usage.
Broad-spectrum protection
Fights bacteria, fungi, mold, mildew, and lichen — effective in both high-demand infrastructure and residential cosmetic surfaces.
250-gal Totes
50-gal Drums
4.5-gal Pails
If AMX 5500 has been sitting for an extended period, mix well before use. Do not dilute.
Use 122–128 fl oz (0.95–1.00 gal) per cubic yard of concrete. Count total AMX 5500 volume toward your water-to-cement (w/c) ratio.
Pour AMX 5500 into the mix while the drum is turning. Continue mixing for an additional 5–10 minutes for thorough distribution.
No changes to cure time, finishability, or color*. Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment.
*Let us know if tinting is required for treated structures within your municipality and/or project.

Concrete Coating PSC 2306 is a one-part (1-K), silicone-based protectant, which, when paired with our AMX 5500 will provide the highest degree of protection for municipality wastewater systems. Developed as a more effective, safe alternative to toxic coal tar epoxy coatings, PSC 2306 in conjunction with AMX 5500 will significantly lengthen the serviceable life of sanitary & stormwater sewer systems with no harm to installers, residents, or the environment.
