For over seventy years, MarMac couplers have remained industry professionals’ proven, preferred choice for connecting gravity-flow stormwater and sanitary sewer systems. With permanent jointing solutions for pipe, manholes, and box culverts, our couplings are built to last the lifespan of the pipes & structures they connect. From 4″ corrugated HDPE to 144″ RCP & CSP and everything in between, each MarMac coupling is hand-made in our McBee, South Carolina manufacturing facility.
Our pipe coupler membranes are engineered to be highly reliable while remaining lightweight to lower shipping costs. Alternating layers of polyethylene and woven polypropylene impart incredible strength and durability without sacrificing the flexibility required for an easy installation. A high-tack mastic permanently holds each layer together and aggressively bonds the coupling to the joint.

While our Regular-Duty couplings (as shown above) can be considered “heavy-duty” compared to our competitors, our Heavy-Duty couplings include an additional layer of polyethylene. A reinforcement layer of woven polypropylene is sandwiched between the two layers of polyethylene, making our Heavy-Duty pipe couplers 3-ply and engineered for the most extreme conditions or special requirements.
A durable, cross-laminated, polyethylene backing is used for the outermost layer of our couplers. This tear-resistant exterior stands up to the harshest backfill requirements. The polyethylene is bonded to a puncture & shear-resistant layer of polypropylene, which also acts as reinforcement due to its incredibly strong, woven structure.
All of our couplings are manufactured with multiple alternating layers of cold-flow, rubberized mastic. This not only permanently adheres the sheets of cross-laminated polyethylene and woven polypropylene together, but it aggressively bonds the underside of our couplers to all pipe surfaces. The mastic is designed to adhere more and more to the pipe surface over time, ultimately eliminating the need for the built-in compression bands, in theory.
To ensure the coupler remains adhered to the pipe surface and does not shift during backfill (in sub-grade applications), all MarMac couplings have built-in, free-sliding compression bands. The majority of our smaller-diameter pipe couplers (<30″) utilize cold-rolled stainless steel pipe clamps with 5/16″ hex head worm gears. Larger-diameter pipe couplings (30″≥ and all sizes of MacWrap Couplers) feature box-stitched, woven polyester straps with zinc-coated ratchets.
Once the coupler compression bands are tightened, a protective flap – made from the same mastic/polyethylene material as is used throughout the entire outer membrane – covers the exposed working area, keeping the strapping system completely isolated from the elements. In sub‐grade applications, backfill increases the compression against the entire coupler, benefiting performance while preventing any moisture, silt, or other sub-grade material from contacting the coupler’s internal components.
